David Malone - Owner
David Malone is a native Texan, born in El Paso, and has lived and worked in Austin since 1976. He received a BA from Baylor University and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas. He worked in the engineering and high tech industry most of his career, and now has a deep interest and commitment to using his engineering knowledge and diagnostic skills toward making existing residential and commercial buildings more energy efficient.
David is a certified HERS Rater,
a Registered Energy Auditor with the City of Austin,
and a Certified Home Performance with Energy Star contractor for both Austin Energy and Oncor.
He also is a Certified Home Energy Auditor by the Texas Home Energy Rating Organization (Texas HERO),
and is certified by the National Comfort Institute (NCI) in Air Balancing and Diagnosis.
He is active in the Austin community, having worked with variety of Austin organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Foundation for the Homeless, Anderson High Booster Club, his local church, and currently serves on the board of directors of two non-profit organizations based in Texas. He is a past president of the Baylor Alumni Association.
1st Choice Energy drives a hybrid electric vehicle, and David's home and office have been upgraded with a 16SEER high efficiency AC, R38 insulation and radiant barrier, and R8 insulated and sealed duct work to less than 7% leakage.
David believes it's important to lower both his personal and commercial consumption of natural resources, not only to lower the cost of doing business, but because it's the right thing to do to conserve resources for future generations.
